Sadness is a normal emotion that can make life more interesting. Unfortunately, sadness is a part of life. Numerous artists and poets are inspired by sadness, sorrow or grief. That is to say the one that comes to mind is Edgar Allen Poe’s “The Raven”.  For example, sadness almost always accompanies the loss of a loved one.

Sadness – the attitude of the mind having, expressing or showing low spirits or sorrow, emptiness and being unhappy.

In addition, the emotion of Sadness can range in intensity from mild momentary unhappiness to a feeling of intense sorrow or desolation. To clarify, it is a warning sign of your wound. We often need people to validate what you feel, to walk with you, to listen and to hear what you are saying. Generally speaking, sadness can be nature’s way of allowing yourself to heal. In essence your body needs to slow down long enough to allow time to react and rearrange your life.  When our mood eventually changes from sadness towards happiness, by and large most people feel somewhat elated.  In other words, Sadness also helps us appreciate happiness.  However the shift in the opposite direction is also possible.

Events that can Trigger Sadness:

The different kinds of disappointing events that can  trigger sadness are numerous.

Loss or absence of a loved one, Divorce, Job or income loss, Financial trouble, Issues at home, Failing an exam or Not getting a Job.

For example, a person experiencing sadness can usually find some relief from crying, venting, or talking out frustrations.  The hypnotists at the Mind Enhancement Center have successfully helped many clients relieve Sadness using a combination of EFTTM and Hypnosis. As a result they have better control of their daily routines and lives.


Sadness is often triggered by Grief.  There are Five stages of Grief .

Above all, there is NO set time frame to grieve and each person progresses at their own pace.  Therefore each person must work thru the stages of grief in their own manner.   Most importantly, Do Not let anyone tell you that you need to get over it or you should be doing better by now.   The five stages of grief are:

Denial     Anger     Bargaining     Depression     Acceptance

How to Tell When Sadness Turns Into Depression

There are multiple signs of depression therefore, the Mind Enhancement Center hypnotists refer clients or individuals to therapists that office in our building.  For example, some of the signs of depression listed below come from Very Well Minded

  • Persistent sad, anxious, or “empty” mood
  • Feelings of hopelessness and/or pessimism
  • Feelings of guilt, worthlessness, and/or helplessness
  • Loss of interest or pleasure in hobbies and activities that were once enjoyed, including sex
  • Decreased energy, fatigue, and/or being “slowed down”
  • Difficulty concentrating, remembering, and/or making decisions
  • Insomnia, early-morning awakening, and/or oversleeping
  • Loss of appetite and/or weight loss, or overeating and/or weight gain
  • Thoughts of death or suicide and/or suicide attempts
  • Persistent physical symptoms that do not respond to treatment, such as headaches, digestive disorders, and chronic pain
